Hello Laughing Yaffle – Who are you?Laughing Yaffle is run by Alison Hamnett. Hello, that’s me! I’m a one-woman skeiner, dyer, webmistress and packager. I’ll be the person you will have most contact with, but sometimes my husband Paul may be drafted in to help if I’m stuck in a vat full of dye! Laughing what?A yaffle is a local word (local to Somerset anyway!) for a green woodpecker: - here’s one in our back garden. They ‘laugh’ when they’re calling out, and as laughter, yarn, and nature are the things that keep me going, the name seemed to fit...!
Why did you start Laughing Yaffle?The floorboards were groaning under the weight of un-used and half-knitted skeins of sock yarn. I couldn’t find exactly the right colours I liked. So I thought I’d dye my own skeins and enjoy knitting socks even more!
